Joan, from present knowledge only fusion (hot or cold fusion) will answer the anticipated explosion in energy needs.

Presently hot fusion is a negative energy generator if at all and cold fusion is still a dream.

The other aspect is to syntesize hydrogen with solar energy by alge or biomass etc. at a price competitive with hydrocarbons. ...... also high content salt pools may help if energy conversion will not require steam to power an turbine.

Nuclear power is to expensive to finance and to dangerous in many ways plus there is waste problems
