Joan, from present knowledge only fusion (hot or cold fusion) will answer the anticipated explosion in energy needs. Presently hot fusion is a negative energy generator if at all and cold fusion is still a dream. The other aspect is to syntesize hydrogen with solar energy by alge or biomass etc. at a price competitive with hydrocarbons. ...... also high content salt pools may help if energy conversion will not require steam to power an turbine.
