It's certainly not excusable for PALM to not play MP3 and support external storage. Supposedly, there is an alternate machine that supports PALM OS and a CF, but I can't remember who it is. Unfortunately, due to the slow cpu, mp3 support is not likely either.

The least SanDisk-friendly is clearly 3COM/Palm, which I have always attributed to lack of foresight & ingenuity, a lackluster OS and the lack of a robust microprocessor.
