I meant that MSFT doesn't buy anything big. They tried with Intuit once, and maybe the only reason that they didn't buy big stuff is because it would have gotten the Justice Dept. on their case even faster, but they haven't ever grown substantially (as far as I can recall) by purchasing anything. ORCL buys small companies fairly often, too.

It's very odd to me that MSFT innovates so little. They have a lot of really great engineers there, and the company gives them a substantial amount of freedom. Maybe it's just the way upper management works -- I don't know anything about MSFT management.
