Akamai, RealNetworks sign Web media delivery pact April 10, 2000 06:07 AM CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 10 (Reuters) - Akamai Technologies Inc. AKAM , which provides services that speed the delivery of Web pages, said on Monday it signed an agreement with RealNetworks Inc.RNWK to improve the delivery of audio and video content over the Internet. The deal expands Akamai's reach into the Internet media market by combining RealNetworks' "RealSystem G2" software with its own service package to speed the broadcast of music and videos over the Internet. "By integrating RealSystem G2 with Akamai's massively distributed network, we will be able to deliver the highest quality broadband Internet media for mass audiences worldwide," said Tom Frank, chief operating officer for RealNetworks, Inc. RealNetworks shares closed at 50 on Nasdaq on Friday, unchanged from the previous session, while Akamai closed at 145-11/16, up 10-9/16.
