Westell Technologies and PairGain Technologies Announce HDSL2
Interoperability

Teltrend's ASTS and PairGain's HiGain Solitaire HDSL2 Products Demonstrate Error Free Data Transfer

AURORA, Ill. and TUSTIN, Calif., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WSTL - news) and PairGain© Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PAIR - news) announced today that the companies have demonstrated interoperability between the Teltrend HDSL2 products and PairGain's HiGain© Solitaire HDSL2 products. Westell Technologies acquired Teltrend on March 17, 2000.

Interoperability demonstrated at the University of New Hampshire during an HDSL2 Consortium Group Test Period included the ability to achieve error free T1 data transfer and to provision each other's line cards.

The Teltrend ASTS system is used to deploy high-capacity T1 service on copper loops using HDSL2 technology as well as four wire HDSL, repeatered T1 and/or fiber-optic technology. Fully compatible with industry-standard mechanics, the ASTS system offers automatic protection switching and fully interoperable plug-in circuit cards designed to ease installation and service.

PairGain's Wideband System 3190 (WBS-3190) is a managed DS3 STS-1/OC-3 based access platform that deploys HiGain Solitaire. HiGain Solitaire isPairGain's standards-based HDSL2 solution that offers the same performance, reach and spectral compatibility of traditional four wire HDSL. It enables service providers to immediately deploy a high performance, low-cost solution for T1 delivery applications. The HiGain Solitaire family includes a system of central office (CO) shelves, line units and remote units available in all common T1 system form factors. As a turnkey solution ideal for carriers of all sizes, HiGain Solitaire is designed to simplify the adoption and deployment of this new technology and comes with PairGain's comprehensive documentation, training and customer support.

PairGain Technologies and Westell Technologies belong to the HDSL2 Consortium of the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory. The Consortium's purpose is to foster interoperability among HDSL2 vendors. Both PairGain and Teltrend design their HDSL2 products in compliance with T1E1.4/2000-006-HDSL2 Draft American National Standard for Telecommunications.
