Yes, it would be great news, but will the minutes used be that great!?

The answer is yes, IF:

1. soft hand off between cell/sat
2. single cell/sat phone number
3. per minute charge in sat mode reduced to the point ($1/min?) the average onstar user no longer factored ppm in his daily use of the system.

Given the above, any time the user was in a gap coverage area, or beyond cell - he would be in sat mode. Very shortly he'd never know which he was using, just that he could make and receive a call any time, any where.

Others' experience may differ, but for me dropped calls, and dead cell zones are a daily occurrence right here in the city. A short trip up the coast or into the mountains puts me in a 50/50 situation. If my situation is anywhere near typical, that's a lot of minutes times 4,000,000. The key, IMHO, is to make sat mode seamless and painless.
