Anybody got an idea how BIG this might be?

Monday April 10, 8:18 am Eastern Time
Company Press Release
C-Cube and Sony to Collaborate on MPEG-Based Professional VTRs
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2000--C-Cube Microsystems (Nasdaq:CUBE - news) today announced a collaboration with Sony Corporation to develop MPEG codec solutions for professional VTRs.

The announcement follows Sony's commitment to a strategy of developing end-to-end open solutions based on MPEG standards and comes amid MPEG's growing acceptance as a professional recording format. The announcement also coincides with the work of the Pro-MPEG Forum, an industry association seeking to bring more MPEG-2 applications to broadcast systems.

As part of the collaboration, C-Cube is developing an MPEG codec that preserves video quality as content makes multiple passes through an editing system, a process that normally erodes image quality. To prevent this generational image degradation, the new solution, an enhancement to the DVxpress-MX product family, implements 50 Mb/s encoding and decoding with 4:2:2 component and constrained byte per GOP (CBG).

The new solution, which will offer all the features of DVxpress-MX including multiple-stream editing and realtime special effects, will be compatible with Sony's new MPEG IMX VTRs.

``Sony understands the importance of open standards for our VTR customers,' said Kozo Kaminaga, senior vice president, Sony Communication System Solutions Network Company (CSNC). ``We are pleased to be working with C-Cube to enable interoperability between our MPEG-based equipment and other manufacturers' nonlinear editing and video server solutions using C-Cube technology.'

``Adding compatibility with emerging MPEG-based professional VTR applications to our family of DVxpress-MX products brings C-Cube's video compression and transcoding technology to a growing number of broadcasters that are migrating to digital systems,' said Didier Le Gall, C-Cube's chief technology officer. ``It reaffirms our commitment to open standards for professional applications.'

Technology Demonstration

C-Cube will demonstrate DVxpress-MX for professional VTR applications in the Multimedia Hall of Sands Convention Center, booth M10222. Products enhanced with this feature will begin shipping in the second half of 2000.

Dazzle Introduces Digital Video Creator II to Create Home DVD-movies at an Affordable Price

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2000--

Dazzle's New MovieStar Software Lets Users Add Scene Transitions, Scrolling Titles, Music and More

Bringing DVD-quality video to consumers, Dazzle today announced that the Dazzle Digital Video Creator II, featuring MPEG-2 encoder and decoder capabilities and an advanced editing software package including DVD authoring, will be available to consumers in Q2 2000 for $349.99, hundreds less than comparable video editing products.

Dazzle's new products will be showcased at National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) tradeshow in Las Vegas, April 10-13, 2000, at the Sonic Solution's booth (S5531) located in the Sands Convention Center.

"With the increased demand for home DVD products, the Digital Video Creator II offers consumers an affordable way to produce their own Hollywood-style movies on the PC," said Prem Talreja, vice president, marketing of Dazzle. "Using our new advanced editing software, MovieStar(TM), users can spice up their home videos with the click of a mouse by adding special effects like titles, transitions, music and more."

"Additionally, we make our system complete with Sonic Solutions' DVDit! LE(TM), which lets users turn their productions into interactive DVD titles in a matter of minutes," he added.

"Digital Video Creator II is a revolutionary video capture, editing and DVD publishing system," said Mark Ely, director of product marketing at Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:SNIC). "By combing high-quality video encoding and editing with Sonic DVDit! LE, DVC-II offers a tremendously cost-effective solution for video enthusiasts and corporate professionals that now want to deliver their home movies or business presentations on DVD, the best way to publish digital video today."

"Dazzle's Digital Video Creator II is a compelling consumer solution that takes full advantage of C-Cube's DVxplore's industry-leading MPEG-2 picture quality," said Bob Saffari, director of marketing for C-Cube's (NASDAQ:CUBE) advanced video products. "Dazzle has long used our silicon in its award-winning MPEG-1 products, and we look forward to continued success with Dazzle on Digital Video Creator II and future MPEG-2 products."

The new Dazzle Digital Video Creator II is a complete digital video editing solution, which includes:

-- Breakout Box /PCI Adapter Card - The Digital Video Creator II is an easy to install PCI card with an external breakout box for convenient video/audio connection.

-- Advanced Video Editing Software - DVC II includes new and improved software called MovieStar that incorporates frame accurate editing, and the ability to add special effects such as transitions, titles and music to video segments.

-- DVD Authoring Software - Bundled with the product is DVDit! LE, an easy-to-use software package from Sonic Solutions that allows users to easily create Hollywood-style DVD videos with the click of a mouse. These can then be recorded to a DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD-R and CD-RW and played on DVD-equipped PC and home theater systems.

It captures at full frame resolution (720 x 480) and encodes at a bit rate of 2-10 Mb/sec. MPEG-2 is the compression technology used by the broadcast and the DVD industry.

Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG), is an international committee which sets industry standards for compression, decompression and transfer of compressed video data. With playback better than Super VHS, MPEG-2 has become the new main standard for high-quality digital video, providing a low cost way to store video.
