If we saw it coming, it never would. This is where malarky such as "new economy", "new era" comes from. It is our attempt to explain rationaly the irrationality that surrounds us. Needless to say, rationally explaining irrationality is by definition pretty useless.

Another twist is that we can all see it coming, but are too complacent (er: greedy) to let go of the easy, quick profits before they (and then some) evaporate into money heaven.
