I figured that the spike up was over the popularity of driv with the octogenarian set, but found this news which also factors in. Digital River To Build B2B E-Commerce System for Fujitsu General; Company To Develop Secure Extranet Site for 200 Fujitsu Resellers To Replace Manual Ordering Process

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000--Digital River (Nasdaq: DRIV), the world's largest Commerce Service Provider (CSP), today announced an e-commerce agreement with Fujitsu General America, Inc. (FGAI) to build a secure extranet site for its channel partners. The sell-side e-commerce system will automate product orders and reduce the costs and inefficiencies involved in traditional order processing methods. Digital River will develop, host and manage the site, featuring strong front-end authentication and a log-in-based ordering system with tiered pricing and volume purchase order capabilities. The site will be launched later this quarter.

"By enabling channel partners to purchase directly on the Web, the new site can greatly reduce the time and cost involved in traditional ordering processes," said Frank Harvey, Vice President of E-Business Services for Digital River. "By integrating with Fujitsu's back-end systems, we're streamlining the entire supply chain from inventory to customer. As a result, Fujitsu's channel partners can easily order, manage, and restock their merchandise through a customized ordering system."

The new site will feature over 50 Fujitsu products including its innovative Plasmavision SlimScreen(TM) plasma display monitors. Digital River will provide site development, commerce hosting, transaction management, direct integration with back-end systems, and email order processing. In total, Digital River will manage online product sales for nearly 200 Fujitsu channel partners.

"We're seeing a huge demand for our new Plasmavision(TM) displays and it's important that we make it as easy as possible for our channel partners to keep product on their shelves," said Tedd Rozylowicz, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Fujitsu General America, Inc. "Not only are we streamlining the ordering process for our resellers, we're also going to have better tracking and reporting statistics as a result of logging all orders through a centralized extranet. This will allow us to better forecast and understand the needs of our channel."

As one of the most experienced Commerce Service Providers (CSP) in the industry, Digital River builds, hosts and manages 6,000 clients' e-commerce and Internet marketing systems. Based on best-of-breed technology from top industry partners, Digital River's e-commerce systems enable both B2B and B2C clients to rapidly and effectively grow their businesses online--increasing sales and profitability, developing valuable one-to-one customer relationships, integrating with important back- end e-business systems, and automating traditional business processes.
