Gadzoox Networks Partners With Computer Associates to Develop
Serverless Backup and SAN Management Solutions

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2000--

Capellix(TM) Switch Serves As Development Platform for New CA
Serverless Backup Option and For Integration Of SAN And Enterprise
Management Within Unicenter TNG

Gadzoox(R) Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZOOX), a leading provider of SAN (storage area network) products, today announced
that it has partnered with Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE:CA) to develop serverless backup capabilities and
unified SAN and enterprise management under CA's Storage Area Network Integrated Technology Initiative (SANITI). As a
result of the development efforts, CA and Gadzoox plan to introduce the industry's first switch-based serverless backup
solution for Microsoft Windows and Novell NetWare as well as an integrated solution for managing SANs under the
Unicenter TNG enterprise framework. A demonstration of these advanced solutions are being featured at the CA- World
2000 conference taking place this week in New Orleans.

"Gadzoox is very proud of the accomplishments that we have made as a result of our partnership with Computer Associates,"
said Ken Jensen, Gadzoox director of business development. "In addition to advancing the efficiency and reliability of
SAN-based backup with serverless backup solutions, we have addressed a key end-user requirement in the area of SAN
manageability. By combining our Ventana SANtools product with the proven enterprise framework of Unicenter TNG, we
can now offer a single point of management while maintaining feature-rich SAN management capabilities."

Providing a "many-to-many" network connectivity model between servers and storage devices, SANs enable methods of
streamlining the backup process that have not been possible with traditional SCSI bus connectivity. In addition to providing
"LAN-free" backup capabilities where backup traffic can be handled across a SAN instead of a LAN, the use of intelligent
agents can enable a "serverless" backup on a SAN. With serverless backup, agents which are embedded in SAN devices
such as switches or routers can direct the flow of backup traffic from disk to tape and eliminate the need for data to flow
through a server. In bypassing the server and taking a more direct path, up to 30% of a server's processing capability can be
applied to other tasks.

In an effort to deliver the capability of serverless backup to the market, Gadzoox and CA have partnered on the
implementation of the open standard API, known as the SNIA extended copy command, in Gadzoox' Ventana(TM)
SANtools(TM) for the Capellix 3000 modular SAN switch and CA's Image Option for ARCserveIT. As an integrated solution,
the serverless backup capabilities of these products not only release valuable server processing bandwidth but also help
accelerate the backup process with data rates up to 25 times faster than typical LAN-based backup.

As a distributed network environment similar to a LAN, SANs require a centralized point of management to enable users to
easily and efficiently monitor, configure, troubleshoot and control devices. Traditionally, centralized management for
distributed networks has been provided by enterprise frameworks such as CA's Unicenter TNG. Rather than create a new
framework under which to manage SANs, enterprise frameworks are being extended to cover SAN management through new
open standards and integration with device level management. Through a development partnership, Gadzoox and CA have
completed the integration of Unicenter TNG with Ventana SANtools Snap-in for Unicenter TNG to enable the management
of SANs from a familiar and proven central framework.

"Computer Associates is delighted to work in concert with Gadzoox to develop advanced SAN management and storage
management capabilities under our SANITI program," said Michael LaTorraca, CA vice president, developmental partner
program. "As a result of our partnership, users will be able to manage their enterprise SANs seamlessly from the same
console that they manage the rest of their enterprise. By offering the benefits of serverless backup for mainstream operating
systems, CA and our partners offer a broad range of compelling capabilities to help drive the deployment of SANs."

As the SAN market continues to grow, joint developments such as serverless backup and framework integration are expected
to play an essential role in driving new capabilities for SANs and expanding the market. Based on its modular design,
Gadzoox believes that the Capellix switch will continue to enable revolutionary advancements. By employing a modular
hardware and firmware agent architecture, Capellix serves as an upgradeable and extensible platform that is designed to
keep pace with new open standards, application and framework integration, embedded services and connectivity to a broad
range of networking protocols.

Ventana SANtools Snap-in for Unicenter TNG and Ventana SANtools Snap-in for Extended Copy are expected to be
available within the current quarter. Demonstration of both products and their integration into Unicenter TNG and
ARCserveIT can be seen in booth 957C at CA World 2000 in New Orleans, Louisiana from April 9 through April 14.
