**OT**mooter, the blood substitute segment has sunk a lot of good capital in it. In the mid 70', Green Cross (A major Japanese outfit) had a family of oxygen bearing (dissolving) fluorocarbons under test, "ready to be marketed" and many other companies have continued on this path. ALLP is in essence continuing with improved formulations of those early "crude" compounds.

One of the hidden problems with bovine derived substitute is the fear (maybe baseless) that pathogens much smaller than viruses (prions), could be transmitted into the blood supply. The problem with prios is that currently, you cannot detect them with any easy off the shelf test, you cannot even culture them, yet, some believe they are at the base of "Mad cow" disease and it some of its debilitating forms in humans. It will be an intereting story to follow.

Mooter...OT
I believe it is significant that ALLP's Oxygent is the only blood substitute in clinical trials not derived from human or animal blood. ALLP is in Phase 3 in Europe and US. I would expect a rather rapid approval (12-14 months) to take place in Europe as the need is rather urgent, with the UK's Mad Cow contaminant and France's release of un-screened blood last year. I for one would be a little hesitant to receive any blood from any source other than my family if I were in need, and in Europe.

I am long this stock in case anyone is curious. Sorry thread for sidetracking the subject.
