On this - I'm a believer. DoCoMo has shown how wildy popular a crappy packet-switched mobile internet service can be when it's priced very low. GPRS should result in nearly as cheap handsets, but five times faster net access. Plus access is way easier when you don't have to deal with pictograms.

If GPRS is the surprise hit that iMode was - the current projections will be crushed. 3G is much more complicated; I have no idea how the research firms calculate what the lack of roaming for the data features will do to the sales.

How many consumers want an internet phone that is not an internet phone unless you live in Mayfair or Zurich?

Nokia split in Helsinki today... you could buy it at below 60 euros - yet the US price is now above 220. Talk about arbitrage! Too bad it's an optical illusion.
