compare volatility of DJIA for 1999/2000 to that of 1928 and 29. It is strange how the swings from high to low back then got wider and wider until that big 50+% drop in a week or two. There was that nice (slightly exaggerated increase from 1924 to 1927, then a rocketship in 28 and 29...of course it's totally different this time and that is simply an irrelevant comment I guess. Also seems weird how the charts almost are in perfect alignment except for one missing detail........that last little run up on declining(under 50 day MA) volume that lasted for about 3 months. It came right after the breakout from a very volatile (highs and lows were about 20% apart) sideways trend which lasted from around Jan 1929 till roughly May/June 1929. Its funny how that little dip we had in 1998 looks alot like the one in 1928 too. This is not a prediction...just a history buff typing out some observations ...probably meaningless information.
