China as an emerging market

Here are some additional points to consider related to Keith's tidbits ...

1. China will likely become a permanent member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) in the near future. This would be a strong catalyst for advancement of internet commerce, and online trading and investment by the affluent young in China.

2. Conservative reports by IDC contend that the Asia internet market will exceed that of Europe by 2001. China alone will exceed Australia by 2001 and Japan by 2002!

3. Western based, internet companies (such as etang.com) are beginning to invest in internet related advertisement on Chinese TV - this is an important indicator of steps toward market maturation.

4. Internet infrastructure is currently under rapid development in China, offering internet services to vast potential of internet newcomers. Recent events are related to: a) the GSM network of Unicom interconnecting 131 cities using 3COM products, b) Lucent's introduction of high density, multi-service access switches for the Chinese market, c) overall broadband development in China, d) the first Asian IP bandwidth marketplace trade show (www.ace-asia.com), etc.

NOTE: CPT is offering Online trading solutions for brokerage house that currently don't have online systems.

Does that mean when they hang out their shingle in Canada they'll be offering online trading solutions for Canadian brokerage houses that don't offer real online services, like TD? :)
