Japan investors' demand for gold up on low prices, interest rates
Tokyo--Apr 10--Japanese private investors have boosted investment in gold
since early April due to relatively weak local gold prices, dealers of retailers
said Monday. Current low interest rates in Japan have also attracted investors
to switch their funds from fixed postal savings deposits to gold, they added.

Metals Commitments Analysis: Spec gold shorts more than double
New York--Apr 7--The Commodity Futures Trading Commission commitment of
traders report for gold futures showed that over the last two weeks, up to and
including Tuesday, large speculators' gold short positions more than doubled,
jumping by 24,305 contracts to 42,440 contracts. Over the same period, large
speculators cut long contracts by 13,939 contracts, 40%, to 19,129 contracts.

Taiwan March gold imports 9.572 tonnes vs 8.014 tonnes year ago
Taipei--April 10--Taiwan's gold imports totaled 9.572 tonnes in March,
compared with 8.014 tonnes in Mar 1999, a statement released by the ministry of
