ALL, CORRECTED Summary of ads by desktop PC vendors in the weekly "ComputorEdge" publication for San Diego county. Percentages are weighted by the number of locations of each vendor. Ads advertising only one system are excluded. CORRECTIONS & IMPROVEMENTS: AMD MHz has been extended back to 1/21/00 It is defined as the average MHz difference between AMD systems and Intel systems, at dealers who sell both. A positive number indicates that overall AMD systems are faster. The "AMD fastest system" and "Intel fastest system" lines have been corrected to weight each dealer by its number of locations. Trends: Availability of 750 and 800 MHz PIII's improved considerably in the last month, while the first Athlon 900 MHz system appeared this week($1,369). The percentage of locations where an AMD system was the fastest system sold dropped from 78% to 72%, still a good number. The average MHz margin at shops selling both Intel and AMD dropped from +84 MHz to +75 MHz (in favor of AMD). In context of the overall trend, "AMD fastest system" and "AMD MHz" are still near their peaks.
