Tenchusastu,

Now it seems AMD really did make 800K Athlons in Q4. Wasn't the story originally "800K sold, 900K shipped, 1M manufactured" or something like that? Now it seems the story has changed to "800K to at least 1.2M, representing a 50% increase."

How did you arrive at the conclusion that only 800K Athlons were made in Q4'99? As per Q4'99 CC, AMD booked 800K Athlons, and shipped 900K Athlons (manufactured 1M?). Are you basing your assessment and comment of change of the story, solely based on the posts on this board? I don't think AMD has officially changed any story.

As per Sanders remark that AMD met the goal of 1.2M Athlons - it could mean 1.2M or more - sold, or shipped, or manufactured. I believe AMD sold more than 1.2M Athlons. We will just have to wait till this quarter's CC to know the exact details.

Tenchusatsu,

re:"Now it seems AMD really did make 800K Athlons in Q4."

Well, the facts are out there. Your numbers are wrong.

AMD "sold" 800k last quarter.

This quarter AMD "sold" 1.2 million.

AMD "sold" 50% more this quarter than last quarter.

Nothing changed on my end of the facts.

1M Athlons built
900,000 Athlons shipped
sold over 800,000 Athlons

Sanders said the company achieved its publicly stated goal of selling at least 1.2 million AMD Athlon processors during the quarter.

I am with you on this one. There is always a room for surprise during the CC, but I don't think the surprise will be anywhere near 2M.

From Q4 to Q1, AMD had a head start of 200,000 chips , 100,000 shipped and 100,000 manufactured, so 1.2M seems low. But look at the bright side: All AMD needs for a blowout quarter is 1.2 million Athlon chips. If it does go up by only 50% in Q2 to 1.8 and by up by 100% in Q3 to 3.6, the earnings will go up nicely.
