Carl,

You agree, then, that DDR main memory will be inexpensive? Good. I interpreted your terse response #reply-13384211 to mean that either DDR would be expensive or that it would provide poor price/performance. Maybe you would like to revisit the setup and hold calculations that we went over this past late October, but update them for various DDR specifications...

I don't have an opinion on the cost of DDR memory and never expressed one. I do think that if it were to become widely used on the motherboard (without multiple clock generators and bus switches such as the ones announced by TI) there would be reliability problems on a scale that has not been seen with Rambus. I also think that radio frequency emissions would be a major problem with wide DDR buses.

I always try to keep my postings short and to the point. Also I don't have much time to spare...

What would be the point in revisiting setup and hold time calculations. It would be more useful to make some measurements with a high-speed oscilloscope of bus waveforms under a variety of conditions so that people can see for themselves what the signals really look like. Do you have the facilities to do this and post the results on a web site? If not, I might do so when I have the time.

John
