Having trouble getting on Enikia's site. From memory I believe they've developed one product, an Ethernet powerline transceiver (shipping status unknown). From the little I know they are a small company, that's had some exposure at CES. If I remember correctly, this yr was the first time their products were shown in Europe (at CEBit 2000) They do not seem to be involved in establishing open standards on a global basis, and I'm unsure as to whether or not their products are optimized for control networks.

They are members of the Open Services Gateway Initiative, yet another organization devoted to standardization and interoperability of home networks. Echelon sits on the Board of OSGi, which grew out of Sun's Jini/Java. I imagine Enikia's tranceiver is compatible with LonWorks. osgi.org Perhaps we will learn more about them after Connections 2000, sponsored by OSGi, in May this yr.

I'm reasonably certain that if Enikia's underlying technology was a threat to Elon, as opposed to being compatible, we would have heard more about them by now. Certainly we have not seen press releases from the likes of Cisco, Sun, Microsoft etc championing Enikia as a coveted Partner in any way.

re: X-10 & CEBus. According to Elon, on a global basis LonWorks has the highest installed base in Home Networking. I don't have day to day experience with these technologies and maybe someone who works in this field could comment.

Hope that helps. Regards from one spiral to another.
