Advanced Media Content Management and Distribution Solution Allows For Integration of Technologies for Cross-Platform Distribution
LAS VEGAS, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Redefining the terms for creating and distributing content in the digital media marketplace, iXL Enterprises (Nasdaq: IIXL - news) today formally announced the launch of ``Create Once, Publish Everywhere' (COPE(TM)), a unique enterprise-wide, cross-platform approach for creating, managing, publishing and distributing rich media assets. Developed with participation from market-leading iXL Alliance Partners Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO - news), Digital Island (Nasdaq: ISLD - news), EMC (NYSE: EMC - news), Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news), COPE is designed to provide a unified, scalable architecture and integrated deployment strategy for delivering rich media across a wide range of media channels, including the Web, interactive television, print media, mobile phones and other wireless devices. The announcement -- made at the National Association of Broadcasters 2000 convention, ``The Convergence Marketplace' -- marks the first piece of iXL's multi-platform COPE strategy, which will be expanded to new open architectures in the future.
``The real strength of COPE lies in the critical mass of strategic relationships standing behind the technology,' said Bill Nussey, President and CEO of iXL. ``Our alliance partners represent the leaders of the New Economy, and through this initiative, we're able to offer open solutions for businesses on the cutting edge of convergence.'
As content now is created in digital form and as new channels for delivery proliferate, the COPE architecture allows for greater efficiencies in production and faster time-to-market for media companies and other businesses with complex systems for storing, searching, publishing, distributing and tracking their media assets. COPE is designed to serve up rich media at a range of resolutions, configurations and formats to multiple end users, using only a single media asset, whether video, audio, animation or graphics.
``The advent of convergence, and especially broadband technology, has made the efficient management and delivery of digital assets a necessity for all businesses,' said Ken Papagan, Senior Vice President and General Manager of iXL's Digital Media and Broadband Solutions offering. ``In the broadband era, most e-businesses will become media businesses by virtue of digital media. COPE will allow iXL's clients and its Alliance Partners to take full competitive advantage of this new open environment.'
Industry-Leading Team
``The ability to seamlessly automate digital media information across a single converged network allows businesses with rich media assets to optimize their digital media supply chain for significant competitive advantages,' said Sue Bostrom, Senior Vice President, Cisco Systems Internet Business Solutions Group. ``Cisco is committed to enabling the Internet economy with Internet- based solutions, and COPE provides a scalable, flexible, and open content distribution approach for our customers in the communications and entertainment industry.'
``With the rapid adoption of digital media into e-business applications, the COPE initiative provides companies with a one-stop solution to leverage the Internet for richer interaction with customers and partners,' said Tim Wilson, Vice President of Marketing at Digital Island. ``Digital Island's contribution to this partnership will help build an open, fully media-enabled infrastructure for global e-business.'
``Intelligent management of content, and the ability to rapidly transform and deliver that content, will drive entertainment and business communication in the next decade,' said Doron Kempel, General Manager of EMC's Media Group. ``As we work with iXL and the other members of the COPE initiative, EMC is pleased to offer a foundation infrastructure for the secure storage, management and delivery of all types of digital assets. EMC's open and flexible architecture enables customers to adapt to new market opportunities and accelerate their businesses to Internet speed without changing their core infrastructure.'
``COPE is an innovative solution to allow companies to meet the challenges of managing digital media across the enterprise,' said Jeremy Burton, Oracle's Vice President, Internet Platform Marketing. ``By engaging in the COPE initiative, we are bringing together an elite group of partners with complimentary expertise capable of delivering end-to-end content management solutions.'
``Sun's alliance with iXL and other members of the COPE initiative provides customers greater levels of reliability and interoperability when deploying their e-content and e-commerce infrastructure,' said Bill Correll, Group Manager, Interactive Media Solutions at Sun Microsystems, Inc. ``The COPE framework enables them to build businesses that take advantage of multiple delivery platforms, including iTV, broadband, and wireless, which will be fundamental to success in the new digital economy.'
