NBC's Jim Avila didn't blame the split in Elian's family on Fidel Castro for maintaining a prison-like island country people are not allowed to leave by safe transport and so must resort to dangerous boats if they wish to escape to freedom. That's amusing, because if Cuba were a "free" country they would still be resorting to dangerous boats. If Castro weren't our enemy we'd be treating Cubans like any other 3rd world illegal immigrants, arresting and deporting them at every opportunity.
