Silicon Drought threatens Industry, Page 1, May 1, 2000, Electronic News.

Demand based shortages force a scramble for X'mas parts in May? Double ordering may be stifled by just in time orders. Just in time ordering may have stifled the production at the factories, not having 3 sources of supplies at the master distributors' warehouses. Ordinarily, warehouses were stuffed by factories during slow periods. This puts a shortage on small customers; when spot market is not supported by inventories in the warehouses.

Price increase is expected for distributors to stock for small and large customers and handle the demand expected this coming X'mas. SEMI will do well talking to their customers to work out the inventory requirements during summer slow months to keep factories busy.
