chic, there were rumors about McKinley being moved up, in order to improve the image of the Itanium line (which will not be so great with Merced processor - especially in non-native applications). I don't know if end of 2001 represents a delay or the original plan, the good news is that Sledgehammer will probably beat it to the market. I think Sledgehammer will be a lot more attractive for a department level server than either the Foster (Xeon?) line or Itanium line. Joe

<< I think Sanders is sandbagging about Sledgehammer, we'll see it early, just like the 1 gig Athlon that was supposed to come out at the end of 2000. >> I'd be surprised if he's not being overly optimistic on sledgehammer. We should have a really good idea depending on when they hit first silicon, but this is a new core, not just a revision. It's a lot easier to change the labels on some chips that already ran at 1 ghz than it is to qualify a new core.
