history shows most of the time:

maybe you're right....I'm just watching the price and only glance at the news stuff.

A foot in the door with Sony, that's a good thing...

But this:
"``Sony understands the importance of open standards for our VTR customers,' said Kozo Kaminaga, senior vice president, Sony Communication System Solutions Network Company (CSNC). ``We are pleased to be working with C-Cube to enable interoperability between our MPEG-based equipment and other manufacturers' nonlinear editing and video server solutions using C-Cube technology.' "

says to me, anybody using C-Cube Chips for their encoder equipment, will work with our MPEG-based equipment.
I don't see where Sony is actually using Cube chips...

As I see it at this point, it more of a technology agreement. Like "hey, lets not F@ck up each others streams as they go through the production systems"...

Inconclusive for me. I need more info.
