In professional world, you wouldn't make a secretary install her own PC. You would have an IT department with people trained in installing Linux and applications.

My experience is, that it takes seven to ten mouseclicks to install Linux AND an office suite from scratch on a PC with a standard commercial distribution. Of course it will take longer if your hardware isn't supported, but so you can say about my Windows 2000, that doesn't support my Logitech mouse (!) and my GeForce 256 display adaptor (!).

Your post clearly shows that you have no overview of the Linux market and that you have not experienced Linux professionally.

I'm also a software engineer with 20 years of experience, master of Windows 3.0/3.1/3.11/95/98/NT3.5/NT4/2000, still beginner in Linux, but I can already do much more with Linux than I will ever be able to do with Windows.

Normally, our company charges 15-45 minutes for setting up a Linux server or desktop PC from scratch, depending on the hardware being fast or slow. The bill for setting up a Windows PC from scratch including applications for image manipulation, Office suite, compression tools etc. is at least 2-3 hours.
