As I understand it, "Bluetooth" is a short-range standard for peripheral comm devices to communicate and sync data. No more cradles in the office. I believe IBM has bluetooth-compliant PMCIA for its notebooks coming out shortly. If it extends later to longer ranges and includes an appropriate security model, things get interesting.

MikeM and JMD, Psion, Symbian and CTXS are really focusing short-term on what they call "mobilized e-commerce." That is, provide the sales force, medical staff, field service tech's with form factors for realtime data retrieval. Forget any heavy data entry. Light-weight interfaces to key in a few account/patient/service ticket numbers, status checks, whatever and HQ uses that data to sync customers and supply chain. Maybe get back a realtime stream of SAP or BAAN data that helps folks actually perform or enhance a discrete function. Maybe that's a subtle variation, but I thought the story today on trackyourtruck.com featured the right look at things. Cement truck drivers in the mix. Ha! In fact, to get an idea of how simple these app's are on the front-end, take a peek at the Palm VIII interface right here...

Ha! It's data app's focused like a laser.

Is this WAP format? Beats me.
