<MOT first quarter 2000 earnings were $448 million, or 59 cents per share, compared with $199 million, or 28 cents per share in the first quarter of 1999>

Comparing AMD & MOT market cap against revenues are almost identical (about 8 to 1). Hopefully the street will look at earnings instead (hopefully closer to 5 to 1 if AMD can muster 90 million in profits). That would put AMD's market cap at 18B - share price of $121.

I think you could argue either way whether AMD should trade at the same P/E as MOT.

Comment: Looks like the techs that can deliver earnings really aren't ahead of themselves in price...Interesting that AMD, whose earnings will be greater that MOT's Q1 of $0.59 is, at $75, trading at one half of MOT's $150...Wouldn't surprise me if AMD's Q1 earnings are greater than INTC's as well, who are currently trading at $130...AMD has a great deal of upside by any yardstick you'd care to apply...Perhaps a portion of that upside will be realized Thursday after AMD repoprts its second successive quarter of record earnings on Wed. evening and looks ahead toward the very real possibility come Y2000 year end of having achieved a string of 5 successive record breaking quarters!
