Canopus Shows Scalable Real-time Video Editing Using a Single 1GHz AMDAthlon(TM) Processor at NAB 2000 Mon Apr 10 16:36:00 EDT 2000 LAS VEGAS, NAB 2000, Apr 10, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- At this week's National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, Canopus Corporation plans to demonstrate that the new 1GHz AMD Athlon(TM) processor provides the power to handle the advanced real time features in Canopus' DVRexRT DV editing system. Previously, a workstation configured with dual 550MHz Intel Pentium(R) III processors was needed to handle an equivalent data load. The 1GHz AMD Athlon processor is capable of handling DVRexRT's real-time features including chroma and luma keying, color correction, animated picture-in- picture effects, transitions, multiple moving title layers, audio filtering and slow motion. NAB attendees are invited to see this demonstration in Canopus' booth (M7731) at the Sands Expo Center. Canopus' unique, scalable DVRexRT real-time video editing system uses the power of the host CPU to add features and functionality to the video editing desktop. With the advent of faster CPUs, the video editor can add more real-time effects through free, software-only upgrades. "This is the wave of the future. While other non-linear, real-time editing systems are based on expensive application specific hardware, the DVRexRT relies more on the host CPU," said Jan Piros, vice president of marketing at Canopus. "The advantage to the video editor is cost and flexibility. This approach ensures that through software upgrades the editor can add functionality without the risk of obsolescence." "We are truly excited about DVRexRT because it shows off the raw computing muscle of the 1GHz AMD Athlon processor," said Jim Bovenzi, audio/video specialist for AMD. "The fact that our processor can single-handedly manipulate a heavy data load normally reserved for multiprocessor systems illustrates the robustness of our product." About the AMD Athlon Processor The AMD Athlon processor is an x86-compatible, seventh-generation design featuring a superpipelined, nine-issue superscalar microarchitecture optimized for high clock frequency; the industry's first fully pipelined, superscalar floating point unit for x86 platforms; high-performance cache technology, including 128KB of on-chip level (L1) cache and a programmable, high- performance backside L2 cache interface; enhanced 3DNow!(TM) technology with 24 additional instructions designed to improve integer math calculations, data movement for Internet streaming, and DSP communications; and the AMD Athlon system bus -- a 200MHz system interface based on the Alpha(TM) EV6 bus protocol with support for scalable multiprocessing. AMD Athlon processors are manufactured using AMD's aluminum 0.18-micron process technology in Fab 25 in Austin, Texas. About AMD AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets. AMD produces processors, flash memories and products for communications and networking applications.
