Focus on Earnings This Week: Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices announced last week that it expects
first-quarter sales in excess of $1 billion, up 10% from the previous quarter.
Last quarter, AMD shattered analysts' estimates, earning $65 million, or 43
cents per share, on sales of $969 million. First Call consensus expects it to
earn 51 cents per share in the quarter, with its high-end Athlon chips leading
the charge.

<Whisper number: AMD $0.64>

I hate these "whisper numbers". That said, and analysts looking for .51-ish, I'm holding my breath. I'm no longer convinced we'll blow estimates away. Based on revs/asps/eps from Q4, I'm not sure how we can break 65 cents/share.

Hopefully you guys are right and the street will react favorably to "just" beating estimates. I'm not sure how much Jerry is sandbagging and if he is, how will the street react. $1.06 Billion is a pretty specific number.
