Sony's PS2 has got to be putting pressure on the DVD-drive makers. Now it's the Disk pressers. They sold 1 million the first week.........................................

PlayStation2 Boosts DVD Market 4/5/00 07:29


According to a survey conducted by The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Sony's inclusion of DVD movie capability has helped expand the burgeoning DVD market.
53 percent of the PlayStation2 owners surveyed said they had bought up to five DVDs since purchasing the console. Four percent have bought more than six disks with 30 percent choosing to rent, instead of buying, DVDs. Only a minority of respondents (23 percent) had not bought or rented DVDs.

74 percent of respondents said that they bought the console to watch DVDs and play games with a small number (6 percent) mainly to watch DVDs.
