Great post Clint, as I feel your frustration. I stopped out of some companies today I really like longterm- ADAP, DIGL, JDSU, RFMD and I'm sure my stops for QLGC, LDP, CNXT, etc.. will be hit tomorrow. There is no conviction in the markets anymore. I would like to attribute today's selling to CNBC. All morning long CNBC (especially Tom Costello) was yammering about reducing tech exposure, how we have to retest last weeks lows, etc.. etc.. Hell the naz was green and looking ok when Costello started his rant (he must be loaded with Puts). But after enough negativity (several hours) and the low volume the sellers eventually won over. Then it just seems to snowball as CNBC keeps going on and on, no institutional buying, and the retail trader panics as he sees his neighbor is panicing (everyone's mind is still on last weeks selloff). It's ridiculous. I can't believe that I need to factor CNBC my buy/sells. Guess this is the new age markets. Good luck.

Gee Whiz Clint.. strike out at the helpless day traaders for the ills of the institutions of Wall Street! In my humble etc.. these machinations of the tech sector are the result of funds playing the game, or Solomon's and Morgan's and Hambricht and Quist.. and Long Term Capital look alikes who have the clout, intent, motive and purpose to churn and push the volatility envelope as far as they can. They, not piddling day traders, are the one's who have no loyalty to following and backing a company's ambitions thick or thin. And lets not forget the news, companies like CNBC (whose parent is GE), that have made a casino atmosphere of investing. They parade a chorus line of pin striped analysts and revered floor traders for stochastics, earnings season (like shooting deer), remember to buy the rumor (and they supply a hundred every day), to selling the news.. and selling the whipsaws. Like, sure, the day trader's have a secret weapon.. they trade without listening to Bloomberg and CNBC and leverage their huge portfolios of a hundred shares here and there to undercut the security of exchange in the markets... More power to them, those little investors, huddled in their dens with a rancid cup of coffee and great expectations.. they are the legions of heros doing battle against the corporate manipulators. Hey, what happened?!!! I go away for a few days and you guys let the market fall apart!<g> The trend is not a bad as portrayed in the press on CNN. COMPX is turing at the support level. Off the low of the mornging at 4009. People have been expecting this fall and are picking up stocks at support levels about the April 4,2000 lows. Comment about the losses of hedge funds will cause the Fed to be more support stance. There will press to maintain a more orderlu market as to not have total panic.
