Yes, it's certainly a positive,

although the period of most rapid capacity expansion is now retrospective. For one thing, there's a lag between having it and using it, and thus, demand for epi wafers. Another 27% this year is nothing to sneeze at, either.

Since this release is not associated with one particular event, Conexant had some latitude in the timing of it. They chose to release it at 3:25 pm on a day when both NASDAQ and the stock were down sharply. That's like tossing a flotation device to shareholders, some of whom must be under water on their CNXT investment.

awsc.com.tw Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company

Technology Information / Foundry:

AWSC provides the wafer foundry service for the applications of wireless communication such as digital cellular and PCS phones. AWSC is now having 4-inch GaAs HBT FAB 1A with capacity to produce 400-600 wafer starts per week and will construct FAB 1B in summer 2000. By the end of year 2000, total capacity will reach more than 1,200 wafer starts per week. As a Foundry, AWSC provides the standard cell library and design manual. Device modeling and layout rules are included. Besides the wafer processing we also provide the wafer thinning and chip separation related services. We have a strong RF supporting group to interface with customers.

Building construction completed last April, equipment installed by June, first HBT wafer by July, process verification by August, reliability testing by December, and major customer landed within one year. Clever, these Chinese.

Nice logo, reminds me of 50s sci-fi special effects.
