Chic,

I take this same attitude with the gov'ment. I don't believe in excuses, I wish the government felt the same way.

I spend a lot of time overseas, and rest assured the USA is by far the world's best business climate. People come from all over the world to work in the US, because the opportunities are so vast. How many start-ups can you name in Europe or Asia?

chic re <<so they all knew I had some pretty nice gains last week. We go out Friday night and it's like "you should be paying for everything">>

If you keep your portfolio and your gains private, you wouldn't have this problem. It goes back to that bragging thing we talked about last week.

Sorry, maybe socialism is the more appropriate term, but they are very close to the same (IMHO).

There is a big difference but I don't want to get into it.

Let me give you a good example of what I'm talking about. Last weekend I went back to visit my college buddies. I've been preaching AMD to them for months trying to get them or their parents to invest, so they all knew I had some pretty nice gains last week. We go out Friday night and it's like "you should be paying for everything". No, wrong. I had to lay the smack down. You may think of me as cruel, but to me it's brutal honesty where sometimes the truth hurts. I don't spend 3-4 plus hours a day following AMd and the stock market to blow my hard earned money. I told them, if you want to sit on your ass on Thursday night, so be it, but don't come looking to me for charity.

I don't think you are being cruel...I think you may need new friends...the current group sounds like slackers.

I take this same attitude with the gov'ment. I don't believe in excuses, I wish the government felt the same way.

Your friends are one thing, the gov't is another. One has a very small constituency, the other very large one. Therefore the gov't has to please a lot of different people and may do things that you don't like but I do. But there is no excuse for screwups.
