John, RE: It's interesting that "the street", at this point, doesn't seem to have the same respect for earnings (cap gains) from investments that it has for earnings from operations. My guess is that they feel the "earnings" are one time events, when it appears that Intel Capitol is an ongoing division of the company, and should have sustainable results. As more companies get involved in VC, it would be great if this perception were to change.

IMO, the Street is right on this one.

The returns from venture capital over the past two years have been unprecedented. Odds are, these levels of returns won't happen again, at least for a long time. And the people you hear this most from are people who have been the beneficiaries of these extraordinary returns.

Intel Capital can surely generate positive returns in the future, just not the returns you've seen in the recent past.
