and the lower pin count would lead to lower system costs.

But the lower pin count did lower the cost. Thanks to the lower pin count, the premium for 128MB of RDRAM is only $800.00, instead of $800.25.

If you multiply these savings with let's say 20,000,000 systems sold, you are looking at savings of $5 million.
