Re: That French Connection is a stretch. The two Embassy bombings bear a distinct resemblence to the bombing of the barracks in Saudi Arabia.

I maintain that it's the Osama bin Laden track that is a stretch! I mean, let's face it: when taking up the ploy to simultaneously wipe out two US embassies, one, somehow, has to do his "risk/reward" homework! bin-Laden-bashers have yet to come up with a plausible rationale showing what this Saudi renegade would have gained out of his alleged African attack.... As for any similar pattern with the barracks bombings in Saudi Arabia, well, insofar as a truck full of explosive was driven nearby the targeted building in both instances, yes, we might talk of a "resemblance" indeed....

However, I seem to remember that, in the case of the embassies bombings, a first terrorist team was reported to have opened fire on the US embassy, only to get blown up with their vehicle seconds later.... pretty odd, eh? I mean, it's as if a bunch of manipulated fanatics were ordered to launch an assault parody against the US embassy.... that eventually turned out to be a real "suicide" blockbuster. If you want to look for any resemblance with another murder attempt, think of the plot to assassinate Israeli PM Itzhak Rabin: the young fanatic who shooted at Rabin had only fired blank bullets --but not the bodyguard who pushed Rabin into the car.... Get the picture?
