Flash Memory Output to Reach US$9B in 2000: Nikkei Market Access Survey

April 11, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Global production of flash memory microchips will reach about US$9 billion in 2000, said Tamao Kikuchi of Nikkei Market Access. Kikuchi presented the forecast at a seminar on the outlook of the microchip and LCD markets in 2000 from the viewpoint of the equipment and device sectors. The seminar was held March 29 under the sponsorship of Nikkei Market Access.

The worldwide output of flash memory devices in 2000 will increase to a level more than twice the output of US$4 billion in 1999, according to Kikuchi's survey. This is mainly due to the growth of demand for mobile phones and digital cameras...

Be sure to read the whole article. It clearly mentions that Flash memory production is a more and more important sector year after year, and production is more than doubling year after year. Sandisk is an emerging Gorilla that is going to be a Monster.
