Thank you Neocon, but the Brit missed something that is the key to an Islamic perspective on Jihad. Jihad in its closest accurate translation means to stand for the cause of Justice. If a wrong (Injustice)is being committed against a creature, Muslims are bound to act to correct the wrong. The highest level of Jihad as you pointed out is struggling to correct what is wrong within yourself. When wrongs are committed against others, you are bound to resist the wrong doers until they stop committing the wrong. When the wrong doers desist you are bound to with draw your efforts. You may resist physically. If for some reason that is not appropriate, you may speak against the wrong. If for some reason you are not able to do that, then you may simply form an opposition to it in your attitude. The other aspect of Jihad is creating goodness in the world. So acts of kindness and charity also qualify; Including, the act of forgiving wrong doers when you are able (this is tied in with the high level of struggling to overcome selfish desires).

Absolutely nowhere in Islam is coersion to profess a belief or join the religion condoned.

Note: I am not speaking for all the muslims, just for my understanding of what the religion clearly states. The brit adds a lot that may be accurate account for history but is not accurately representing Islam.

The term Jihad used in association with "Holy War" is largely a product of the media exploiting the wrong doings of some corrupt muslim leaders. For something to qualify as a Holy War the Muslim scholars and the mainstream population of Muslim believers (1 Billion) would have to be behind it. This hasn't been the case over the last few hundred years.

I know you already knew this, and you know how I get when you post the Brit perspectives on Islam.

My two cents,
brees

Not all modern Muslims. There are plenty willing to blow themselves up, or blow other people up. I would have thought that would be obvious even to you.
