FPL, General Electric in $3.7 billion turbine pact..These are the kind of news that makes waves all the way on GE.. business makes money and the companies in the old economy are no planning to spend and re-furbish for that they go to these great companies, how many b to b companies can boast contracts like this..

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (CBS.MW) -- General Electric will supply advanced technology natural gas turbines to Florida Power & Light under a $3.7 billion, multi-year agreement, the companies announced Tuesday.


Shares of General Electric (GE: news, msgs) added 2 13/16 to 162 1/4, while shares of FPL Group (FPL: news, msgs) -- the Florida utility's holding company -- lost 7/8 to 46 5/16 in recent trading.

Under terms of the agreement, GE Power Systems will supply 66 of its 7FA natural turbines, as well as parts and repair and on-site services.

The turbines will support Florida P&L's current expansion program by boosting the generation capacity of its power production unit, FPL Energy.

GE will begin to deliver the turbines this year until the year 2004. Services will be provided until 2011.

"We see a further benefit for the communities we serve from our deliberate move toward generating technologies that utilize clean-burning natural gas," Tony Rodriguez, FPL Group's senior vice president of power generation, said in a statement.

The advanced technology gas turbines that FPL Group selected also offer a high degree of reliability, noted Robert Nardeli, GE Power Systems' chief executive.
