and a handgun lock will prevent how many of those deaths? Most of them. Sure. I guess if we just parked our cars there would never be car accidents either?

Scumbria, Do you think there is a correlation between the lack of guns and the lack of shootings in the UK? In the US, you are dealing with a more violent population and not functioning legal system. If you want European style low murder rate, you would primarily have to replace Americans with Europeans, and than for the added benefit, you can wave the magic want and make all the guns disappear. Since this is impossible, and there is no solution to the problem, why not just demagogue the issue to make political hay? Joe
