Ted,

the issue is how do we learn to live without handguns like other civilized countries.

The issue really is "How do you keep the guns out of the hands of criminals". I think many the law abiding people would be willing to give up their guns in the danger of crime was not imminent.

Re: civilized countries

It is not the lack of guns that make those other countries more civilized. It is their people.
