Trading options can involve an expensive learning process

Agreed, with the exception of selling out of the money covered calls. That is a mechanism everyone should be encouraged to use when they are long term bullish on a stock and want some nice guaranteed income.

I even considered it myself on some AMD last week. Wish I had now, but I still see too steep an upside from here.
