Scumbria,

There are many very wealthy Russians living in the Bay area. Where do you think they got their money from?

Despite the number of Russian criminals, let's not lose the fact that Russians are very smart. A lot of the Russian immigrants are the cream of the crop.

I am completely guessing here, but how does your wife rank in IQ to say you female classmate from high school? If you are smart, and live in the Bay area, it's inevitable that you will benefit, since brain power is the most important asset there.

Where are all the art treasures from St. Petersburg? Who do you think makes up the Russian mafia? It is easy to trace all of these phenomena back to the KGB.

This must have started under Gorbachev. It would absolutely not be tolerated under his predecessors. See my opinion of Gorbachev in another post.

Joe

Scumbria,

Also, I'm not sure you realize how bad an experience Afghanistan was for Russia. It left the country totally demoralized.

I hope you know what made war in Afganistan so miserable for Russia. The answer is: the arms that Reagan sent them, especially the Stinger missile, which grounded Russian air force, and made Russia fight on the terms of the local guerillas.
