Rambus sues Hitachi for patent infringement in Germany

SAN FRANCISCO, April 11 (Reuters) - Rambus Inc. <RMBS.O>, a
developer of designs to speed up computer memory chips, said it
filed a lawsuit in Germany against Hitachi Europe GmbH, seeking
to halt the shipment of Hitachi memory chips that it alleges
infringe on Rambus patents.
Rambus, based in Santa Clara, Calif., said that it has
previously filed a suit against Hitachi in U.S. District Court
and with the U.S. International Trade Commission for
infringement of a total of eight U.S. patents, covering the
same products.
Rambus said it is seeking to halt the importation, sale,
manufacture and the use of Hitachi SDRAM, DDR and SDRAM memory
devices which are alleged to infringe on Rambus intellectual
property protected by European Patent EP 0 525 068.
Hitachi has a licensing agreement with Rambus for the sole
purpose of enabling Hitachi to manufacture and sell memory and
logic products which are compatible with Rambus RDRAM product
specifications. The lawsuit filed against Hitachi does not
relate to Rambus-compatible and logic products, Rambus said.
