sonki - I don't remember the post either - but it's probably 30375 ( Message 13382945 )

In any event, this CMGI is interesting because I would not have expected a deal with Novell and SUNW - except the Eric Schmidt connection. I'm not sure I fully understand what this new thing is, lots of internet buzzwords - perhaps someone who actually works in the field could explain it to me. But this is the kind of deal that keeps SUNW in the forefront when people think about web technology.

Looks like I bought those LEAPs a couple of days early... but in a few months the exact entry point won't make much difference. At some point I'll probably move the option positions into equity, the SUNW machine does not look like it will slow down any time soon.

{one can always buy BS or MO and watch their money go up in the smoke and get a low pe that goes lower }

Well, today I hear MSFT is responsible for the fall. MSFT downgraded because of earnings. Both MST and MO have problems and have had problems for quite awhile. Most people know that.

Yet, other tech companies have good earnings. For instance, CHKP had great earnings:

Check Point Profits Jump 77 Percent

By Barbara Etzel

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Internet security company Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NasdaqNM:CHKP - news) on Wednesday reported a better-than-expected 77 percent rise in first-quarter profits, fueled by heightened
demand for Web security programs following several high-profile hacker attacks duringn the quarter.

The Israeli firm, whose major U.S. operations are based in Redwood City, Calif., said its net income for the quarter rose to $34.9 million, or 40 cents per share, from $19.7
million, or 24 cents, a year earlier.

Wall Street analysts had expected a profit of 35 cents per share, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial."

Dear Sonki,

MSFT and MOT's problems do not surprise me. On the other hand, I expected good earnings from CHKP, and I expect good earnings from SUNW.

The financial news and the analysts focus on companies with problems. As the earnings season unfolds, let's hope news reports will focus on companies good earnings
