I was a trader, even in my long-term stocks. I love TA, and I thought I was doing really well avoiding down markets.

The problem was I would occasionally trade out of a great stock and forget to buy it back! A few years ago I owned 10,000 shares of Uniphase, presplit! Imagine. Same with Exodus, Siebel, VeriSign. Back in 1994 I had positions in AOL, PeopleSoft, US Robotics and Ascend that somehow got away for a time.

So I decided to try the long term route this winter. This is my first correction when I haven't deliberately cut and run. I did get caught in last June's rout because I was travelling, and my recovery from that made this latest decision easier.

But it's still painful. Frustrating. And knats (or vultures) like HJ buzzing about make it more annoying. Good thing he's do damned easy!

Next time I think I'll try some covered call positions.
