<< Kidnapped. Taken without the permission of JM, who had legal custody >>

Not true. According to Cuban law, the state owns the child. If Fido Castro wanted Elian to stay in Miami, JM would not have had a say in the matter.

<< This thing you're on about how JM should have gone to Miami is stupid, he would have been greatly outnumbered there ... >>

Outnumbered??? There are many thousands of Cubans who come to Miami from Cuba every year. Many of them are parents who have been separated from their children, which is one of Fido Castro's favorite, criminal acts.

Juan would have been invited over for a real Cuban barbeque, American style, and he would have been immediately reunited with his boy.

Juan choose to stay in Cuba and slurp down the brew, for four long months, instead of a pleasant 90 mile trip to Miami to get his son.

But..... keep making the stuff up as you go along. It makes for interesting fictional reading.
