jman, <<This is the earnings season in which earnings do not matter unless the earnings are absolutely blow-away (beats the whisper by .05-.10, for example). >>

I believe the conference calls and forward guidance are driving the prices much more than the earnings, as was the case with MOT and certainly with QCOM last time around. But yes, beating the number by .01 on stocks with triple digit trailing PE's is not working.

Coots - with one last batch of April calls that really could use being salvaged.

JMan I agree w/ much of what you say but take exception to 2 points: one, that some people will be permanently taken out of the market. I don't think so. i do agree the street is vicious right now and wants lows retested. However I tend to think the NAZ will rebound today.

Earnings, unless blowout, probably will have only a tepid effect. Not that they're priced in, but that they can't fight the fear. However, I also think QCOM was on its way to a good pre earnings run if not for this NAZ retrace and has held up well. We haven't seen 105, or even 120s. We might even still get a bit of a run.

Dear jman: Would you please specify what kind(s) of individual investors you are referring to in your posting? Also, where are you suggesting people put their money if they decide to permanently [as in the rest of their lives, what I infer from your posting] withdraw from the market?

" As someone previously
mentioned on this thread, we might be seeing the start of a
prolonged bear market for techs (prolonged as like 3 months or so
in this day and age). If that is the case and I'm not suggesting it is,
many individuals will be removed permanently from the stock
market."

There are many types of individual "investors," such that you might be referring to one type (even though your posting generalizes) whereas I read your posting and think of another. I am not trying to argue with you, merely ask for clarification because in my experience, even loooooooong bear markets have not shaken loose individual investors. Rather, they have merely sat on their existing holdings and used cash, when available, to add to existing positions in or establish new positions in quality stocks.

Regards,

Lynn
