BUSINESS WIRE - April 12, 2000 09:17
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Apr 12, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today announced an agreement with Dell Computer Corp. enabling Dell to offer an expanded line of Palm(TM) handheld computer products and accessories. Under the terms of this agreement, Dell is now authorized in the U.S. to offer the Palm brand products through its direct sales channel and highly successful e-commerce site. Dell customers previously had been able to purchase a limited offering of Palm products.
By incorporating the Palm brand products into its product line, Dell will significantly augment the sales organization behind these popular products and further drive momentum for the Palm OS(R) platform in the enterprise market. Under terms of the expanded relationship, Palm will work with Dell to support growing customer demand for Palm products in the large business market. Palm products are available to Dell corporate customers through its Dellware program and to consumers through its Gigabuys.com Website.
"In the past two years, leading mobile PC vendors have had to become more than providers of hardware -- they've had to become solution providers for their customers," said Mike McGuire, principal analyst for mobile computing at Dataquest. "At the same time, handheld computers have emerged as important tools in the complete corporate information toolbox, and must be considered a key element of any business' potential mobile computing solution."
"'Business on the go' is a standard way of life in today's workforce, and this agreement provides our corporate customers a broader range of computing tools to support immediate, informed decision-making, anytime from any location," said Karen Fuller, Vice President of the Dellware Product Division. "Palm handheld products give our customers a broader choice of computing solutions, from the server to the palm of their hand."
"Dell's endorsement of the Palm platform and products is an important advance for corporations, government agencies and educational institutions seeking to standardize, manage and deploy Palm handheld computers in their organizations," said Greg Rhine, vice president of worldwide sales for Palm. "That Dell, a global market share leader in enterprise-class computing solutions, is now going to carry the Palm brand highlights the widespread demand for corporate handheld solutions. More importantly, it makes the purchase and management of Palm handhelds even easier for these organizations."
