Swiss Police Arrest Man Carrying Scud Missile Parts
at Airport
By Andreas Britt

Bern, April 12 (Bloomberg) -- A businessman traveling from
Taiwan to Libya has been arrested at Zurich's airport after he was
found to be carrying Scud missile parts, Swiss Federal Police
said.

The police, acting on a tip, arrested the 44-year old man in
the transit area of the airport, on his way from Taiwan via Hong
Kong and Zurich to Tripoli, Libya. The police said the man, who
wasn't named, carried mechanical parts identified as components
for the drive of a Scud missile.

Scud missiles, originally designed in Russia, became widely
known during the Gulf War, when the U.S.-led forces destroyed some
of Iraq's arsenal of missiles and missile launchers, after the
soldiers of Saddam Hussein had fired them at Israel.
``He is under the urgent suspicion of delivering parts of
Scud-missiles to Libya,' said the Swiss Federal Investigators
Office.

The man was arrested last Thursday and taken in custody, the
police said. He's suspected of having violated laws on the
possession of war materials. The parts were confiscated.
